Cozimo, an online image and video collaboration app, employs groups and project management utilities to help visual artists put together videos and films. Cozimo could be big in Los Angeles, where CEO Joshua Rosen toiled as an art director for Hollywood films such "What Dreams May Come," "AI" and "Peter Pan."

Cozimo is a tool for real-time collaboration around photos and videos. It promises tight synchronization--at the exact frame level in videos--when multiple viewers are online, and a timeline-based annotation system that sounds a bit like Viddler's video-commenting feature. Cozimo Founder Joshua Rosen, who presented his product at Demo 08 Wednesday morning, said the genesis for Cozimo was a bit of desperation. Working on the artwork for the movie Peter Pan several years ago, Rosen and his team were split up all over the world and finding it hard to find time to edit images and video for the film. His boss said that if he don't find a way to get it done, they'd all be fired. Rosen's solution? Cozimo. It works like this: An image is sent to your e-mail by one of your colleagues. When you open the image, it launches Cozimo's collaboration tool. Anyone invited to the project can mark up and leave comments on the image or video in question. Chat windows appear to talk in real time about the changes. It also works with video clips. Everyone online sees the video play in real time and any can leave notes on particular frames. It has a clean, simple interface and appears very intuitive, but Rosen is not the only one to come up with this idea. See also: ConceptShare, Octopz, and ReviewBasics.

CEO times two Joshua Rosen was undoubtedly the busiest demonstrator at the Demo tech conference that concluded Wednesday night. Rosen is CEO of two of the companies chosen to showcase its products at the event, Montreal-based Cozimo.com and Berkeley, Calif., based Notebookz.com.. That's the first time that's happened, says Demo's executive producer Chris Shipley. Cozimo is an online video collaboration utility targeted at digital media and design professionals who team up on projects from remote locations around the world. Notebookz's offering, called iLeonardo, is entirely different. It's billed as a social utility that connects people who share "collections" of information. Shipley called Rosen a "parallel entrepreneur." Rosen developed the idea for Cozimo in 2003 while art directing the remake of Peter Pan starring Lynn Redgrave. "I was working with 15 people on four continents, and the collaboration issues nearly cost me my job. I was constantly chasing people and their changes; digging through hand-written notes. It was a nightmare until we created Cozimo." Rosen told me both his companies got a really good reception at Demo. But "I don't think I'd do two again," he says. By Ed Baig

  4. The second morning of Demo08 focused on video and social media. Both are very crowed spaces, and it's hard for startups to break through in these markets. The video products looked like a lot of fun, though there seem to be a lot of video creation tools. Bit Gravity's content distribution system, though, looked very strong. Chris Shipley said this was likely the last Demo where social media products would be broken out, because it was just becoming a part of so many other products. Most of these products looked good, with iLeonardo, Hubdub, and Redux standing out, but it seems very hard to break through in this crowded space. Here are the details. The Revolution Will Be Televised The first demonstration came from Bit Gravity, which was also hosting the video streaming of the conference. They showed live HD video streaming across the Internet, and they believe they have better quality at a better price. It is a flash client, so people can write an interface around it. It looked very strong. Cozimo is a web service aimed at collaborative video editing, which lets multiple people annotate frames from a video. Everyone in the project can see the changes in real time, and see the notes. It also acts as a content management system to some extent, letting you manage multiple projects. Cozmio looks like a good way for teams of people working together on a video...

  5. DEMO: Cozimo and iLeonardo share a CEO - Tech Talk - By Dean Takahashi Wednesday, January 30th, 2008 at 9:22 am in General.

Joshua Rosen is the only guy here with two companies, Cozimo and iLoenardo. Cozimo is an image and collaboration utility that allows people to share their concepts online. Joshua Rosen, CEO of Berkeley-based Cozimo, said he got the idea while working in Hollywood on big films such as Peter Pan, where collaboration across groups became a nightmare. Now, with this tool, you can make changes to the same drawing, make changes to it, and then leave a note. Others can make their own comments on the note as if they were making forum comments. You can do the same with video, stopping on an exact frame of the video, making a note, and then reply to other notes. As you play back the video, you can skip from comment to comment. You can receive notifications of recent changes from the Cozimo home page where you log in. It is real-time, has notifications, allows discussion, and you can manage and organize all projects online. “Collaboration on the web is here today,” he said. The company has raised $150,000 in seed funding so far from private investors. By contrast, iLeonardo makes a building tool to discover, collect and share collections of material on the web.

  6. Cozimo - A collaborative tool that lets creative professionals view and notarize content in a live session or sent in a message system. The tool is very cognizant of the file types that creative professionals may use, so viewing media, whther it be a text document, a high resolution image, or a video, is done in a very quality manner that doesn’t display pixels when you zoom in. The issue with collaborating with others on visual content, especially if the collaborators are remote, is that it’s difficult to convey exactly what you’re talking about. With Cozimo’s live collaboration tool, everyone can see exactly what the presenter is talking about. Colored “markers” let you indicate changes that should be made, a highlighting tool lets the presenter show exactly what part of an image you’re talking about, and even what frame of a video you’d like to be modified. All the things you note on an image or video can also be wrapped up in a message for other collaborators to access at any time, giving an effective alternative to a live collaboration. Cozimo is intentionally avoiding the inclusion of any content-editing tools, as the tool is designed for a fast and immediate solution for addressing existing issues with content. That being said, Cozimo would obviously be even more useful as an integrated tool with existing applications. Cozimo has already ad

  7. Web-based, real-time image- and video-collaboration program. Collaborate any time from any computer at any location. Easy-to-use. Go to e-mail, select image, and it opens collaboration environment.

Each person online has their own layer. There's chat, comments, a toolbox, and a pretty simple interface. People see what you're doing in the project in real time. You can also leave team members notes, and they can reply to them. All team members can watch a video clip together and pause it so they all see it stopped in the same spot and them mark it up Real-time image and video collaboration on the web, notification system, presenter mode and all is wrapped into a content management system. [Demo was a bit of a dud. It's supposed to be about media collaboration (he even mentioned working on movies like AI and Peter Pan, in the past, which spurred him to create this collaboration tool), but the demo lacked any real movie magic. The most innovative part of this product appears to be collaborative viewing and markup of video clips. Not bad, but few people outside the movie and advertising industries will be interested in this.

  8. Win/Mac: Cozimo Launches Real-time Image and Video Collaboration Service.
    Posted on Tuesday, January 29

The new web-based service provides the ability to collaborate and review images and videos. While reliance on hard-copy proofing has increasingly given way to emailing PDF proofs or using an FTP site to handle the approval process, those with demanding production requirements more typically turn to an end-to-end solution, such as provided by the PROOF-it-ONLINE site. But collaboration takes many forms and Cozimo has produced a new twist with its web-based application geared to digital media and design professionals who regularly review and collaborate on visual content, such as images, video or PDF files, and require feedback from many people located in different locations. During live sessions, users can view and write comments or draw on digital images or video frames. Marked frames or pages are shown on a timeline at the bottom of the work screen, allowing users to jump to a specific frame or page. All annotations, messages and activity are recorded throughout the course of a design or production project. A Presenter Mode is also available, which lets users lead a discussion or presentation and ensures that all participants are on the same page, frame or image at the same time. Cozimo supports JPG, TIFF, TGA and GIF files, as well as single and multi-page PDF%

If there were an overarching theme, it would be ease of use, making existing classes of products less cumbersome to use. I wrote about a few of them from the conference. In particular Sprout, a Web-based drag and drop environment for building sophisticated Flash files, and Blist, database build with a Flash-based interface stood out. In addition, Fabrik’s Joggle looked like a useful virtual storage utility for managing files across different services, and Cozimo developed an elegant collaboration space for creative projects. LiquidPlanner’s online project management software also stood out as a well designed Web 2.0 application.

With the cost of startups falling, more and more entrepreneurs are hedging their bets by developing two or more projects at once. Joshua Rosen, who is planning to launch two different companies at technology conference DEMO tomorrow, lets MarketWatch take a look. “We see a lot of serial entrepreneurs,” said a DEMO exec, but Rosen “is the first simultaneous entrepreneur." • Rosen's companies, Cozimo and Notebookz.com, both involve online collaboration, and each has just a handful of employees. Rosen isn’t worried about scaring off investors who might consider starting just one company a full-time job: "They just want to know that here is a potentially huge market in both sectors."

Cozimo http://www.Cozimo.com is an online collaboration interface geared toward the design community but super simple it could be used by anybody.

Cozimo lets you upload images in PDF and video and then allows you to overlay these files with markups and comments. You can annotate the files in different colors and collaborate with multiple users as you hash over a creative idea or vision. All viewers will see the same area or frame in a design document and can chat real-time. You can zoom in their viewer with full vector graphic support.

They have wrapped their viewer so that you can embed with a few lines of code, their application into your website imagery which is very cool. This tool brings the phrase "get on the same page" to life.

  15. Last week I wrote about collaborative databases with Trackvia.com. This week I take a look at another collaboration technology from a new company called http://www.Cozimo.com that is geared towards video production and editing teams. Everyone these days is shooting video and thinks of themselves as video producers and editors. And while it is great that more video content is now online, much of it is either unwatchable or uninteresting. But I come here not to judge all these budding Bergmans, but to tell you about a tool that can make it easier to work together with your team and better produce these videos. The idea isn’t new, but what Cozimo offers is. Let’s say you shoot some video footage and want to show it to a bunch of people who are spread all over the landscape before you release it to the general and unsuspecting public via YouTube. You can email a copy of your video to your team, but this isn’t very satisfying, and especially these days as many filters routinely block big file attachments. Ideally, you’d like your video to be stored in some kind of collaboration system itself, so you don’t have to worry about where the most current copy is housed. And this system should allow your working team to gather together online and view, comment, and make adjustments to the footage. You want to make comments on particular segments, frames, or%

...There is a certain envy to being able to do low fidelity prototypes with a level of basic interactivity (if only because a number of past clients were not co-located and scanning sketches and providing written context was never enough, however, it might be a lot easier to share and annotate these days using ConceptShare, Octopz, Cozimo or DimDim).

From graphic design approval sessions, to creative visual brainstorms, collaborative review tools provide the relevant context and technical toolset needed. From collaborative highlighting, to annotating and commenting in real-time or asynchronously collaborative review tools help you take collaborative decisions more effectively even when you and your team are a million miles apart. collaborative-review-miniguide-cozimo-screenshot.jpg Photo credit: Cozimo.com In the past, getting feedback on visual projects, artwork, or advertising layouts from co-workers and colleagues physically close was the norm. You could immediately capture and integrate their feedback into the document or the image you were creating. But what now that your team is spread throughout the world? Yesterday if a team member wanted to get feedback on his work, he was likely to print it out, gathered his team-mates in a conference room and allowed them to mark up printed copies of the visual documents with their comments and feedback. Lots of preparation time. Lots of paper wasted. Lots of work to make sense of all feedback and bring it all together in a new revision release. But the worst was when your team members were not geographically close to
